Common Questions

How do you build a van for mountain biking?

We build it around your bikes, riding kit and the way you use them. That can include secure bike mounts, slide-out storage, spaces for helmets and shoes, somewhere to get changed, charging sockets and separate areas for clean and muddy kit. We can also fit a compressor and jet-wash system for cleaning up after a ride.

Can you build a van around fishing kit?

Yes. We can fit protected rod storage, tackle drawers, washable flooring, ventilated storage for wet kit and secure spaces for nets, bait boxes, chairs and other bulky gear.

Why start with a Volkswagen?

Because it is a proven van that is easy to service and practical to live with. Add a VanHaven conversion and you get a high-quality, luxury build on a versatile van that holds its value.

Which Volkswagen Transporters do you convert?

We specialise in premium Volkswagen Transporter conversions, including the T6.1 and T7. You can choose from different engines, drivetrains and short-wheelbase or long-wheelbase models.

Can VanHaven source the base van for me?

Yes. We can source a suitable Volkswagen Transporter and then build the conversion around what you need.

What types of base van can you convert?

We can work with factory Kombis, Kombi conversions, Shuttle conversions, panel vans and Caravelle conversions.

Can I use it all year round?

Yes. We can specify insulation, heating, ventilation, lighting and off-grid power for winter nights, summer trips and wet-kit days.

Can you install off-grid power?

Yes. Depending on what you need, we can fit leisure batteries, charging systems, inverters, solar panels, USB ports, 12-volt sockets and mains hook-up.

Can you add heating and ventilation?

Yes. We can fit heating, roof vents, opening windows and other ventilation to keep the van comfortable throughout the year and help dry out damp or wet kit.

Can you fit a kitchen or washing facilities?

Yes, if the layout has enough room. Options include water storage, a sink, a fridge, cooking facilities, hot water, an outside shower or wash point and a jet-wash system.

Can the van carry bikes and still have passenger seating?

Yes. We can combine secure bike storage with approved passenger seats. The best layout depends on how many bikes you carry, their size, whether you remove the wheels and how many people need to travel.

Can I sleep in the van without having a full campervan conversion?

Yes. A day-van or Kombi-sleeper layout can give you a removable bed while keeping the van practical for passengers and carrying gear.

Can you keep dirty equipment separate from the passenger area?

Yes. We can fit washable load areas, bulkheads, hard-wearing flooring and separate or ventilated storage for muddy boots, bikes, fishing gear and wet clothing.

Can you build a van around dogs?

Yes. We can include properly sized dog crates, hard-wearing surfaces, ventilation and storage for leads, food and other dog gear.

Can you create a mobile office?

Yes. We can fit a desk or worktop, storage for devices and paperwork, good lighting, charging points, connectivity equipment and flexible seating.

Can the seats be removed or adjusted?

Depending on the van and conversion, the seats can be fixed, removable or fitted to rails. We will recommend the best system for carrying passengers, sleeping and storing equipment.

Can you design the conversion so it can be changed later?

Yes. Where possible, we can use removable storage, adjustable equipment mounts, rail systems and accessible electrics so the van can change as your needs do.

Will the conversion affect my Volkswagen warranty?

Our conversions are designed to protect the base van’s Volkswagen manufacturer warranty. We will explain exactly what is covered before the work starts.

Does the VanHaven conversion have its own warranty?

Yes. Our warranty covers VanHaven workmanship, electrics and fitted systems. The exact length of cover, terms and exclusions will be set out in writing for your van.

Do your used vans come with a warranty?

Yes. Our approved used Transporters come with warranty cover. The exact cover depends on the individual van and will be confirmed before you buy.

What happens if something needs attention after collection?

Contact our aftersales team. We provide warranty support and servicing to look after you and your van after handover.

Is finance available?

Yes. We offer finance for private buyers and businesses, subject to status and approval. Options can include hire purchase, lease purchase and longer-term finance.

Can finance cover both the van and the conversion?

Yes. Subject to approval and the finance agreement you choose, finance can cover the full cost of the van and its conversion.

Is finance available for businesses and sole traders?

Yes. We can arrange finance for companies, sole traders and private buyers, subject to eligibility. Speak to your accountant for advice about tax and VAT.

Can I part-exchange my current vehicle?

Yes. We can value your current vehicle and take it in part-exchange. If it has outstanding finance, we can discuss settling it and using any equity towards your deposit.

How much does a bespoke conversion cost?

It depends on the base van, layout, materials, seats, electrics, storage and exterior upgrades you choose. Once we know what you need and what your budget is, we will give you a clear, detailed quote.

How long does a conversion take?

It depends on the specification, the availability of parts and our workshop schedule. We will give you an estimated start date and build time before work begins.

Will I receive updates during the build?

Yes. We will keep you updated as your van moves through the design and build stages.

Can I choose the colours, upholstery and exterior styling?

Yes. You can choose the upholstery, finishes, wheels, body styling, interior details and practical equipment, with help from your VanHaven design consultant.

How do you keep the van within its legal weight limit?

We consider payload throughout the design. The conversion, passengers, water, batteries, accessories, tools and other equipment must all stay within the van’s legal weight limit.

Do I need specialist insurance?

You need to tell your insurer about the conversion and every modification. Make sure the policy covers the finished van, how you will use it and the full value of the conversion and fitted equipment.

Will my van be registered as a motor caravan?

That depends on its permanent features and how the finished van looks. We can explain the requirements, but the DVLA makes the final decision.

What paperwork comes with the van?

You will receive information covering the van’s specification, fitted systems, operating instructions, warranty and maintenance requirements. Keep it with your invoices and service history.

Does bespoke work help resale value?

Done properly, yes. Neat wiring, quality materials, clear paperwork and a sensible layout make the van easier to own and more attractive when you come to sell it.
